Great day for London as first-time Hosts for the

National Masonic Clay Shooting Championships.

Welcoming 122 shooters and guests from all over the UK, the Metropolitan Grand Lodge Clay Shooting Association (MetGLCSA) were first-time hosts for the 6th National Masonic Clay Shooting Championships held at E J Churchill’s superb shooting ground at High Wycombe, Bucks on Saturday June 26th.

In near perfect weather conditions the 100-Bird Sporting contest was hard-fought over a course of twelve challenging stands  by Masonic teams from Bedfordshire, Cornwall, East Kent, Essex, Hertfordshire, Leicestershire & Rutland, Middlesex, Surrey, Sussex and West Lancashire with the MetGLCSA putting up a contingent of 27 team members to shoot for London .

Not to be outdone, there were guest teams from Hertfordshire (the Braughing Bangers), Dorset (the Dorseteers) and London (the Super Vitruvians, Boston Elm Wood and the Coutts Boys).  We were also delighted to welcome Ladies from Middlesex, Hertfordshire, London and Sussex and two competing Junior shooters from London and Hertfordshire .

At the end of a tremendous contest, with over 12,000 clays having been shot at, only ten clays separated the top three Masonic Provincial teams.

Saturday June 27th 2009
at the Dolphin Shooting Ground, Longton Preston, Lancs

Our moment of glory has finally arrived!  It was in June 2006 that the embryonic MetGLCSA managed to muster its very first three-man team to travel up to the Province of West Lancashire to challenge them and the massed might of the rest of the Provinces at the 3rd National Inter-Provincial Clay Shooting Competition and despite the overwhelming odds and absolutely dreadful weather still managed to wrest 5th place out of 180 competitors.

This year, we are arguably the largest subscribing Masonic Clay Shooting Association in the country and this is our long-awaited opportunity to prevail over all of our fellow Masonic Shooters and gently demonstrate to our West Lancs hosts the sort of welcome they are likely to receive when they come to us next year when MetGLCSA is slated to be holding the National Inter-Provincial down here.  In between we will of course be hosting the Home Counties Inter-Provincial Clay Shoot in September (more details shortly) and nipping up to West Lancs at the end of June for a fun week-end and a demonstration of London firepower will be a superb warm up event (which we can win) and serve notice on all the others the likely result of the Home Counties event in September!

                                       Sunday 12th October 2008

London storms in to take Silver

at the Home Counties Inter-Provincial Masonic Clay Shooting Competition
on Sunday August 31st 2008.
With seven Provinces and over 120 competitors at the Inter-Provincial Masonic Clay Shooting Competition held on Sunday 31st August 2008 at Dartford, Kent, the MetGLCSA, lead by Hon.Team Captain Brian Saidman, fielded its strongest team ever with 15 stalwart London Masonic clay shooters ready to defend the Metropolitan Grand Lodge of London’s shooting honour.  Hosted by the Surrey Masonic Sports Association at the Dartford Clay Club, Kent, Masonic Shooters from London and the Provinces of Surrey, Middlesex, Berkshire, East and West Kent and Sussex, together with visitors and guests, competed over a testing 100 bird multi-discipline all-rounder series of events, including Sporting, Skeet and Trap.

Under glowering skies and fending off variously early morning fog, occasional driving rain and the odd spot of sunshine, the hosts, Surrey managed to fend off the determined assault by London to take Gold by only 5 clays out of the combined 600 clays shot at by the six top-scorers. Whilst MetGLCSA had to be content with taking Silver as Runners-up, team member John Perrin, London’s top Masonic Marksman, , took the Competition overall Top Gun Award for the second year running with an awesome 90 ex-100

(Back row, from left) Paul Goodey, Chris Mills, James Saidman, Jeff Epps, Darryl Rivers, John Perrin, Ray Banks

(Front row, from left) Phil DeVaux, Svend Jensen, Terry Harris, George Baker, Brian Saidman, Ian Kinchin, Richard Everson

Every member of the London Team put in a spirited performance and their energy and enthusiasm in supporting the event was noted by all.  Middlesex lagged some way behind in 3rd position with the remaining Provinces supporting the lower positions.  A superb buffet lunch helped restore flagging energy levels and suitably fortified by the excellent catering all the competitors packed into the  main Clubhouse for the speeches and prize-giving.

With the proceeds going to the British Heart Foundation and the RMBI, the Provincial Grand Master of Surrey, Eric Stuart-Bamford, ably supported by his Deputy, Mike Yalden, and APGMs, Derek Barr and John Milner (Chairman of the Surrey Masonic Sports Association) heartily thanked all those who had so splendidly organised the event, particularly Mike Bushby, Secretary of the SMSA and those who had so generously supported
